Organization

Our church is governed by a Constitution and By-Laws which we have drawn up. Decisions are made by an Executive Committee consisting of: the Pastor, the Clerk, the Head Deacon, the Church Treasurer, the Financial Secretary, the Finance Director, the Business Manager, the Trustee, the Church School Superintendent, and the Fellowship Administrator. A Moderator can be elected from the church membership.

We also have a Board of Deacons who assist the Pastor in overseeing the spiritual affairs of the Church, which include the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. They meet quarterly.

Other people are asked to fill positions such as a Head Usher, several Church School teachers, and periodic ad hoc committees.

The Executive Committee meets quarterly. At its December meeting a budget for the next calendar year is worked on. On the first Sunday in February we hold our Annual Meeting, at which every church member has a vote. We vote for the people who make up the Committee and vote on a budget, after a time of questions and discussion. Both Old and New Business items can be raised by any church member.

Church membership is granted to those who attend a Confirmation Class, by Letter of Transfer from another church, and by Affirmation of Faith. The Pastor meets with prospective new members regarding the structure and beliefs of the United Church of Christ and this local church in particular.

Although the church is autonomous, we are part of the Naugatuck Valley Association, which consists of 15 other United Church of Christ churches, and the Connecticut Conference of The United Church of Christ - about 260 churches. We meet with church delegates and pastors from our sister churches periodically. Check out our Links to read more about the local, area, conference and national bodies which make up The United Church of Christ.
